Disclosure, because the page is a sales document: Connecticut Registered Agent.co publishes it, charges $99 a year, and benefits if you accept its conclusion. ZenBusiness's prices are taken from their published terms and placed beside ours without characterization.
The Platform Case, Made Fairly
ZenBusiness has built the most polished product in this industry. Formation, state filings, compliance prompts and agent correspondence sit in one dashboard, the design is deliberate, and the experience is closer to using modern software than to filing paperwork. Buyers who want an administrative hub and intend to work inside it are getting something for their money, and the agent appointment is a coherent thing to keep in there with everything else.
Two Advertised Figures, One Recurring
Purchased as standalone agent service, the rate is $99 plus state fees for the opening term and $199 per year at renewal.
Both numbers are published, and the structure is common enough to deserve description rather than outrage. The first figure prices an introduction. The second prices the relationship. Since Connecticut expects a company to keep an agent on file for its entire existence, the second figure is the one describing what you will actually pay, and the evaluation ought to be run at $199 from the start.
"Plus state fees" attaches only to the opening figure and means the charge depends on which filings accompany the order, so the advertised amount functions as a floor rather than a total.
| Term | ZenBusiness (agent only) | Connecticut Registered Agent.co |
|---|---|---|
| Opening term | $99 + state fees | $99 |
| Each renewal | $199 | $99 |
| Three years | $497 + state fees | $297 |
| Five years | $895 + state fees | $495 |
Across five years the gap reaches $400, and the statutory service delivered on both sides is the same service.
The $99 That Does Not Step Up
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order HereOur rate is $99 and the renewal invoice reads $99, permanently, because there is no promotional term to end. Service of process is scanned the day it arrives at our Connecticut office and emailed to you that same day. The agent field of your public record shows our Connecticut street address rather than a residential one. Reminders precede the state's filing season instead of following it. No tier sits above this plan.
A caveat we apply to ourselves: BetterLegal's published annual rate is $90. That places our $99 among the lowest advertised prices in Connecticut and stops short of the top of the podium.
How Connecticut Records a New Agent After ZenBusiness
The governing provision is Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243o, and the instrument is the Change of Agent filing, form BUS-09, which covers domestic entities of every type except limited partnerships. Fifty dollars is the price. Connecticut's Secretary of the State is the filing office, and the online workflow at business.ct.gov exists alongside the printed version rather than replacing it, so the channel is a preference rather than a requirement.
What controls the sequence is the acceptance. Connecticut will not record the substitution unless the incoming agent has signed to accept the appointment, which makes it structurally impossible to remove ZenBusiness first and find a replacement afterwards. The correct order is therefore fixed for you: engage the new agent, submit BUS-09 with the acceptance already executed, verify the change in the state's business records, and cancel the ZenBusiness plan only at that point. Handled that way, the appointment transfers without a single day on which the company has no agent of record.
Worth knowing before you decide who signs: the question of serving as your own agent has two answers in Connecticut, and both are correct. The company itself cannot hold the appointment, because the state's own guidance describes the corporate option as any other entity sitting on its register. An owner or member who lives in Connecticut is a different matter, and that person may hold the role personally. The route is lawful and it is free, and it also puts a residential address into a searchable public file and requires somebody to be reliably present at it through business hours. Most owners weigh those two facts and hire the appointment out.
Our Connecticut change of agent page covers the filing in more detail.
